Happy 2017!

This is the first full week of 2017 and it has been a very successful start to the year.  I feel like everyone always has such high expectations starting into a new year and sometimes those goals and expectations drop off come March or maybe even sooner, sometime in February.

This usually happens to me.  I have great goals already set going into the new year for both personal and business adventures and then life happens.  Ah, Life.  For me – this can be anything from laundry piling up, to my phone croaking, maybe it is extra blogs I want to get done that are taking longer than I had planned. It happens! Life never goes as planned and sometimes our goals seem to get farther and farther away as we get busier and busier. Who doesn’t say that they have no time for XYZ ?

I wanted to change that for 2017.  I had heard about PowerSheets in the fall and checked into them a little bit more during the last couple months of 2016.  I have never been amazing about writing down my goals, but I do have a notebook full of To Do’s that I see as my goals. They are all either current things that need to be done or projects I want to get done.  A couple of weeks before Christmas I decided to dive into the PowerSheets and order the notebook.

When the book arrived I was both excited and terrified.  I flipped through it and that is when the terror really set in.  It looked so daunting and scary.  There were a lot of questions in the Prep Sheet area that were going to make me really think about and figure out my goals for 2017.

I dove in right away and finished up the sheets within a couple of days and guess what? It wasn’t that bad.  One of the things the process leads you to is figuring out what Your big picture is.  What is the big picture for you? What does it look like? What are you working towards?

I had never thought about the Big Picture before.  Small and large tasks that need to get done, basic goals, etc., yes – but never the big picture.  Finding out the big picture really helped me to focus in on and narrow down my goals and decide what the motivation had to be to achieve those goals.

Going into the second week of 2017 I encourage you to find your Big Picture. Make a vision board, Pinterest board, etc., and figure out what matters to you. What do you want to achieve this year?  I highly suggest getting PowerSheets or at least reading Lara Casey’s blog  – She has great advice on goals and going after your goals little by little to keep them from being overwhelming!
