Tips for an Awesome Engagement Photography Session

4 Tips to have the best engagement session

Your engagement session is usually the second time we have met.  If you are local to Ohio, we most likely have already had an in-person meeting, so the engagement session is a great time to see each other again! For out of town couples, the engagement session will be the first time we have the opportunity to meet and spend time together.

The engagement session is one of my favorite ways of getting to know the couples we help. During this time I really get to see your personalities shine through and see how you and your partner interact with each other, which is such a vital part of the getting to know each other process.

You also get a chance to see how  I work behind the camera and how I am able to help you during the session.  After our time together during the engagement photography session, you will be pros in front of the camera and ready for the photo shoot on your wedding day.

Here are a couple of tips to make your engagement session awesome!

  1.  Bring two outfits – Couples should bring two outfits each so we can get a variety of different looks during the session.  One of these outfits should be dressy, and the other one more casual.  You two do not have to match your clothing. In fact, it’s actually better if you simply coordinate your outfits rather than matching them perfectly.

2. Have your ring cleaned – Your engagement ring will be featured prominently in several of the pictures since I enjoy getting a couple of single shots of just the ring during your engagement session.  When Scott and I were getting ready for our engagement photography session I got my ring cleaned the evening before so it sparkled in the photographs.

3. Choose a location that is meaningful for both of you –  I love to photograph at locations that hold a special meaning for you as a couple.  I have photographed at several private residences and loved it!  Family properties are always meaningful. I also know lots of other gorgeous locations that are great to photograph at if you do not have a specific location in mind. I am always more than happy to offer suggestions based on what you two like.

4. RELAX!  The session will be fun! If you are worried that you don’t know how to pose or that you are not photogenic  – don’t feel that way. You are photogenic! Every couple we work with says they are not photogenic, but I promise you, everyone can look amazing in front of a camera and it’s my job to make you two look and feel like seasoned pros.
