Since our evening on night 2 was pretty laid back with just hanging out on Waikiki Beach and watching the sunset, we decided that going to Diamond Head the next morning and hiking it would be good. The hike was actually pretty easy! I do suggest going in the morning though to beat the heat. Some of the parts of the trail are pretty close to the side of the rocks, and there is a big tunnel you have to go through. The tunnel was actually probably my least favorite part just because it was a very steep incline and there wasn’t a ton of air! We were both still sick at this point and breathing, in general, was still a challenge, so going up a steep incline in a tunnel probably wasn’t the best move, but we enjoyed it! The views after when we got to the summit were well worth it!
After we were done hiking Diamond Head, we drove around the other side of the Island. This actually started the day of driving! Our first stop was Kualoa Beach Park and Chinaman’s Hat. They were pretty neat little spots to check out on the drive. The next stop that we went to was La’ie Point-Laniloa. We ended up driving the rest of the way around to Sunset Beach on the North Shore! Like I said it was our days of driving!
The next couple days were beach days and driving back to some of our favorite places on the island on the North Shore.
We hung out on Sunset beach for a little bit while enjoying some fresh fruit from a local farmers stand. There is an amazing cafe on The North Shore called Sandy’s Sandwiches. I think it is technically a food truck, but it seems pretty stationery. It is seriously AMAZING. Such a yummy sandwich shop and the famous Shave Ice is nearby!
We headed to Turtle Bay which is really close to Sunset Beach. It is just a little bit more North of Sunset Beach, and you can probably guess why it is called Turtle Bay! There are a ton of turtles in the ocean there and hanging out on the beach by the shore. You are not supposed to bother the turtles or touch them/get to close – so don’t be tempted! I had fun taking lots of photos from a distance, and honestly, I don’t think I would want to go swimming there because there were so many turtles! I can’t imagine it would feel nice to be knocked into by a turtle shell. They are pretty big turtles! We did have fun hanging out on the beach and watching them!
The last night in Waikiki we just hung out and enjoyed a sunset on the beach. We actually saw a ton of sunsets on Waikiki which is crazy because on Maui (which was supposed to be the more relaxed part of the vacation) we hardly saw any sunsets on the beach!
