Erika and Kyle were married this past summer and we did their engagement photography session at Highbanks Metro Park in Lewis Center, Ohio. I love Highbanks! I grew up about 10 minutes from Highbanks Park, so this park was where I always went for school trips, and I visited it often when I was older. When I took up running in high school I would frequent the trails there for trail running. One of my favorite trails is the Coyote trail, which also happens to be the dog trail! It goes through woods and in and out of prairies and Indian mounds. At the back of the trail is a huge red barn that is always fun to visit! I took Bentley my Border Collie there often when I would visit my parents in the area.
We went into the woods for the start of their engagement session and headed down to the main bridge. There is an adorable stone staircase that goes onto a wooden bridge that is not only gorgeous, it’s a fun element to the trail. It was a perfect location to start, and then we jumped into our cars and headed a little deeper into the park. About a minute’s drive from the coyote trail there is a huge open prairie that looked amazing with the soft light from golden hour. We found some huge trees that lined up perfectly with the light, and once Erika changed into her blue dress it was perfect with the golden light.
