I always get excited this time of year – flowers are finally blooming!! YES!!! My tulips come up, magnolias are out and I get to find random crabapple trees in the woods!
I had about 40 pine trees die last year. I am guessing mostly from the dry conditions we had last summer and the fact that they were only supposed to live about 50 years and they are nearing 50 or 60 now. The trees have slowly been coming down. I have about half of them down at the moment or 1/3 – I am not for sure! Either way they are coming down which is opening up some of the woods. There is a ton of thinning that has to happen to get the woods looking nice on that side of the yard… but guess what!!!! One of the things I was going to do once it was all clean was plant some ornamental trees over there – think dogwood, crabapple, flowering pear, etc. I was walking up the drive the other day while getting the mail and I spotted some white/pinkish flowers! I have what I believe to be crabapple trees growing in the woods that I didn’t even know where there!! They are different then the ones in the yard so I am not sure where exactly they came from or blew in from. Two trees have white/pink flowers and one tree has pink flowers. CRAZY right? They are healthy trees too – not huge like the front yard but a good 10 ft or so. I am so excited because now I do not have to plant little trees and wait for them to get big! I can just thin out the trees around these little guys and clean up the area and hopefully they will be happy!
On a side note – The trees that have been taken down although they are very dead and were dead when taken down I would love to see them used for something!! I was planning on chopping them into 1ft sections to line the pathways in the woods and I still plan on doing this. I have way more trees though then I need for the pathway. I posted on my personal facebook page and the business page for the trees – if anyone wants a tree section they are in about 5′-6′ sections you are more then welcome to one, two, 5 – how ever many you would like!! I know cut up wood slabs are all the rage right now for decorations at weddings and I would love to see them reused!! If you would like to come chop some slabs or take a tree section with you just get in touch with me through email or phone and we can set up a time. I will post some pictures of the slabs and trees in this post as well.
Enjoy the pictures that I took the other day after all the rain went though. I love taking pictures after the rain. Everything looks so bright and fresh!
WOOD SLAB ALERT!!!!
Those are the trees – there are tons of different diameters ranging from 3inches to 8inches I believe. There might be larger ones but I will have to check.
Below is the super cute white/pinkish crabapple tree in the woods
My gigantic maple tree seeding with the purple crabapple in the background – LOVE The colors!
Charlie was in on the action of running around the yard following me while I took pictures
My boots got a bit wet – oops
Below is one of my favorite tulips – I think it is called a feathering tulip or something of that sort.
THE WOODS!!!
This is the valley area that hasn’t been this clear in about 10 years! I am so excited that it is this clear! Hopefully I can keep it this way. There is still a bunch of work that needs to be done but this is a huge improvement.
Spot the cat!
Random cute little white flowers that are growing in the woods. I enjoy them. I have no idea what they are, but they are pretty!
One of my other favorite tulips – it is bright, hot pink and I love it.
Got to love rain drops on tulips… I feel like I should start singing Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens…
