October Project

Our Life

October 30, 2013

You might be wondering what has happened to the October project.  It had some glitches to put it lightly.  I think it was a great concept, but I should have figured out the parameters for it.  I take at least 1 picture every day – that is for sure and I knew that. Between photo shoots, weddings and just personal pictures my camera is going off at least once per day.  The main glitch that happened is that I do try to stay away from my computer on the weekends if I can.  If I am backing up images from the weekend or shooting then thats fine and I use my computer to back up images.  Once that is done though I try to close the computer and enjoy the time with family and friends.  I think that weekend is what got me off because it was a small fight in my head. I knew I needed to blog and post a picture on here, but I wanted to keep my computer off.  The side of wanting to keep my computer off won.

I don’t see the October project has a failure – a learning experience of needing to have boundaries which is often something that photographers struggle with.  We have issues figuring out when to shut the computer off and when to put the camera down.   Our schedules are always changing and the whole 9-5 does not really work out so well.  There are many photographers, me included that end up having a couple days during the week where we are working a “normal” schedule of a 9-5 or whatever time schedule you pick.  Then there are days like today where I know I have a photo shoot this evening with one of my couples.  Driving to the location, shooting, driving home, uploading the images will take majority of the evening.  I took this morning off to get some stuff done around the house and personal items I needed to get done.

I plan on doing a November project now that I have learned a bit from the October project.   It is going to have some more boundaries like not trying to post every day, but posting 5 days a week and not on the weekends.  Plus, I am looking at my November and the weekends are insanely busy anyway and besides just getting to my computer to upload and back up images is going to be a fun challenge… I can’t imagine adding in a personal project and uploading that too on the weekends!

Now – I am going to finish up a couple personal posts to put up here of pictures that have been taken earlier this week 🙂

I am an Ohio based photographer who loves photographing weddings and engagements, traveling to beautiful sandy beaches, running after our adorable son Wyatt and border collie Bentley. A chips and salsa freak. Lover of  coconut smelling lotions - candles - tea  - desserts and... well anything that smells coconuty, and finally warm summer nights on our patio!  Come hang out with me on Instagram and Facebook!

With Love,
