October Project Day 2 : Columbus Ohio Wedding Photographer

Our Life

October 2, 2013

Day two of the October project!  I was trying to figure out what to take a picture of and when to take the picture since today is so jam packed with events on my to do list.  Luckily, I managed to get it in this morning and I am so happy I did because I was already going to do a blog post about this topic and now I can just tie it into this one! Yay!

So – here is Day 2 –   My name card from a recent wedding that I was a guest at.  Since it is October I had to make sure some cute Halloween decorations graced the cards presence.

This was from my boyfriend’s sisters wedding that happened a couple weeks ago.  I was able to be a guest! Yay!!! It usually only happens about once a year that I get to be a guest at a wedding and not actually photograph anything.  It is always a fun change up for me to be a guest. I didn’t bring my big camera, I did bring my point and shoot and it stayed in my purse the entire evening.  I wasn’t able to make it to the ceremony, but I did get there right at the tail end of cocktail hour and for the entire reception.    It was fun to find my name in the selection of cards on the table!     This brings me to the idea that Claire used for how to label people’s meals on the cards.  They had a served dinner at Winding Hollow in New Albany where they had their ceremony and reception.  You had 2 meat options and then one vegetarian option.  All of the ribbons were color coordinated to the meal that you had already marked on your RSVP card that you sent to the bride and groom a month before.   I had the chicken and therefor my ribbon was a light lilac color.  I believe the other colors were a deeper purple and maybe silver? I am not for sure. I don’t think anyone at my table had the vegetarian option, I can’t remember.    I have seen several other ways of doing this with little markers like icons, colored dots, etc.  I really enjoy the ribbon though, it is probably my favorite out of all the ways to mark what meal you are getting. I think it is simple, classic and a great way to bring the shades of your wedding into the table decorations to make everything work together.

Here are some tips to make sure that it runs as smoothly as possible –

1. If you are having a served meal make sure you have the options listed out on the RSVP card that they have to send back to you.  If they do not send it back then when you call to see if they are coming make sure you get their meal order.

2. Have all the meal orders and names to the calligraphy artist/ person designing all the cards in a timely manner. They will probably have a set date as the last possible date to get this information to you.

3. Have your ribbon colors picked out for the meals ahead of time so you know everything will coordinate with the rest of your decorations.

4. Have a couple extra cards made up of every color that are blank just in case something changes the extra cards are already made up and available to you.

5.  Now the fun part – at the wedding make sure everyone grabs their cards!! This is HUGE!  If someone does not grab their card then the servers are not able to serve them the correct food.  You can either have them on a table where everyone takes their card or have the cards already at the specific tables and have something else set up at the front of the room letting people know where they are sitting.

6. Enjoy your meals!

There will most likely be one or two meals that are mixed up which happens.  Someone will forget to grab their card, lose their card, or there will be a miscount.  Most of the time the caterers plan for this and have a couple extra meals prepared – they will usually just take care of getting everything straightened out without bothering you.

Alright that is all I have for you guys today!
