Is that what you call it? A boarding kennel? or just a kennel that boards dogs? I have no idea – either way – I found one that I like! Hopefully Bentley will like it as well when I am on vacation.
I have been calling around Columbus and Lancaster like crazy to try and find a place to board Bentley that:
1. didn’t charge an arm and a leg… I mean I seriously found a place that charged almost $2.00 for an extra potty break… really?
2. Took the dogs out a decent amount of times – he is only 1 and although he holds his stuff pretty good… I think he would like to go out more then 3 times a day hehe
3. Had an opaque divider between the dogs – this was huge for me mostly because Bentley loves Dogs, he loves people, he loves everything. I am in fear that without an actual solid divider that he would go crazy trying to get to his playmate on the other side of the fence.
4. Had human interaction during the day besides just the potty breaks. Bentley is seriously 100% people dog. He has to be around people otherwise I think he would go crazy. He has to be able to run a bit and play ball. Luckily, the place I found has a boy scout that comes in and takes the dogs for walks for a half hour or an hour depending on what I want. He will also play with them as well! Yeah! Bentley will be this guy’s best friend in no time!
5. Would take a non neutered dog. I had NO idea that he would have to be neutered to be boarded! I kept running into this problem in a lot of boarding places in Columbus. I hadn’t gotten him neutered yet since we were still finishing up some obedience classes and agility. I was worried that he would hurt something if he got neutered and then was running in and out of tunnels and jumping. We have pretty much been in and out of the classes since he was old enough to get neutered so there was never time.
6. Its close to home. This wasn’t a huge issue since my parents live around Polaris and I live down by Lancaster – he could pretty much have gone anywhere around 270 and I would have been just fine with it. This place is only in the next town over from my town which is amazing. Its located in Bremen – Susans Grooming and Boarding.
Hopefully Bentley will be happing with his little vacation that he gets! I’m so nervous since I have never boarded an animal before! I’m going to be one of those crazy people that shows up with a list of this is what he likes, what he doesn’t like, oh here is 10lbs of dog treats, his bedding, 20 tennis balls, a stuffed animal that he will rip to shreds in 1 hour, peanut butter filled bones, list of commands he responds to, his walking leash, his other leash, his other collar…
