Hatteras Island Wedding Photographer

 

Side note – I really, really want to photograph a wedding in Hatteras or the outer banks area really bad now that I have gotten married there! Any North Carolina brides out there?

 

I know so many people have been waiting to see some photos from our wedding day.   I am excited to share with you a small teaser of some of the photos that I took during the wedding day.  Yes, you read that right! I was running around taking pictures during my wedding day and the day after.  I actually built in time in the timeline of the wedding day so that I could take pictures of the center pieces, cake and details.  I wish I had built in more time so I could have taken my own pictures of Scott on our wedding day.  I did take pictures of Scott the day after and more pictures of the details the day after.  I am so glad that I took these pictures because some of these pictures that I took are the only ones that I have to remember that part of the wedding day. Now that I have gotten married, I view the wedding day in a totally different light and I now shoot the wedding day a little different then how I did before I got married.

I have always known that pictures of the details, bride and groom, family portraits and parts of the wedding day are important. Now I know that certain things are even more important.  For us, having hours of hours of reception coverage wasn’t that important, but having more coverage during the getting ready and enough time built in to the timeline for pictures of the details, pictures of us, and all the little moments that are important that happen during the day.

I made up our timeline for our wedding day and I was extremely happy with it.  The whole wedding day was great on timing, it went by crazy fast, but it was good.  We did run late with our hair appointments going over the time, but since I had scheduled in so much “extra time” everything got back on schedule. I had to speed up my make-up a bit, but somehow I still had plenty of time to finish the centerpieces, tie the hawaiian leaves and orchids to the back of our chairs, put the orchids together for my hair, and take pictures of lots of details!   There is a lot that I learned during the wedding planning process, working with vendors, having experiences good and bad with vendors – yes, even someone who works in this industry did not have perfect relationships or experiences with all the vendors, and when to listen to the vendors advice and when to go with my gut!  Over the next month I will be sharing lots of information about our wedding, what we did, what we learned, and lots of photos that I took!  I will be going over what I made, what we bought, how I made it, where we found items and lots of other useful information.  If you see something that you want to know more about just leave a comment or email me and I will get back to you on it!

I was very hands on for a lot of the decor that we used :  These ceramic centerpieces I made and they were my babies ( Yep, I do ceramics as a hobby ) in the months prior to the wedding. I saw a similar ceramic clam shell and loved it, but was not going to buy them when I knew I could make something very similiar.   The shells and seaweed have their own story that I will share when I blog in more detail on the centerpieces.  I ended up making about 7 I believe. I had 12 on the to do list, but I ran out of time, so I made sure I had enough to cover the tables in Hatteras, plus a couple extra in case one broke on the drive down there.

 

Airplants! You will see a common theme throughout the wedding day with airplants.  I fell in love with them during the planning processes and they fit theme of Natural and Organic.  We did not do a traditional cake topper.  Something about putting two ceramic people on the cake at the beach just wasn’t appealing to me. I wanted everything to feel organic and people on a cake was not organic to me.  Luckily, Scott agreed and he was fine with putting coral and airplants on the cake for our topper.  Just wait until you find out our cake flavors!  We had two very different flavors and they were amazing!!  Our cake was made by the lovely Atlantic Cake Company  I highly recommend them if you need a wedding cake in there outer banks area.

My bouquet… ah.. I love you. I was and still am in love with my bouquet. It was everything I wanted.  I worked with our florist for a couple weeks via pinterest boards to get the right feel. I think she might have thought I was a little nutty, but I had a pretty clear vision for what I wanted the flowers to look like. Since our bridal party was so small everyone got their own type of flower and style.  They were all based on flowers from my bouquet so that it was cohesive.  I absolutely loved how natural and gardenish this felt. I literally described it as if someone had walked into a garden and picked a bunch of flowers and tied them together.  I wanted different textures, heights, and widths and she created it perfectly. I have airplants,  light peach ranunculus, blue delphinium ( My fav! ), white hydrangeas, purple tea roses, blush color english roses.  It was tied together with raffia and a brown linen under that.  My bouquet is currently being preserved and so is Scott’s boutonniere.  I will share with you all that info when I blog on the flowers. Jinny from Every Blooming Thing is who our florist was and amazing! I highly recommend her if you need flowers in the Hatteras area.

 

 

Our rings –  We have some funny stories about Scott’s ring.  The ring pictured is actually not the one he is currently wearing right now.  The one pictured is a Scott Kay band and it was to small. We were hoping it would fit the day of the wedding, but it is a very very small size 11.  We had to order an 11.5, so the day of the wedding we had a back up cobalt band that he is currently still wearing. We really aren’t sure when his real wedding ring will come in. Hopefully soon!  I will share with you all the fun stories of his wedding ring on the post dedicated to our rings. It is going to be a fun one!
