Announcing a new bouncing Baby Boy in April 2016!

We are expecting a new little member to the family in April 2016!  We are pretty excited about him arriving.  We are in the home stretch at this point in the last trimester.   Bentley is super excited to have a little person that he gets to herd along with the cats!

We found out in August that we were expecting and were a little bit surprised!   Right after we found out, we shot a destination wedding in Florida.  We had a couple extra moments during that wedding weekend to sneak away for a dinner and to celebrate us being pregnant.  I cherish this time that we had over that weekend.   It was like our little secret that no one knew and we could just digest the information and be excited!

I already had a cute idea for the announcement – we took little baby shoes and did our announcement on the beach to give to our parents and siblings.  This was also the time that we came up with the babies nickname – Baby Barnacle.  We thought something beach related was appropriate since our lives have revolved around the beach this year and I told Scott right before we left for the Florida wedding.   People hear the name Baby Barnacle and probably think we are nutty, but hey it works! We wanted something other then the typical last name nickname for baby.   We picked up a little cake from the local grocery store on the island and enjoyed that during the weekend!  It was a delicious cake and I am so sad that we don’t have any of those grocery stores in Ohio, because the cake was so good!

Fast forward to present day –  It has been a crazy couple of trimesters!   I luckily didn’t have horrible symptoms during the first trimester.  The main thing that I had to deal with was just making sure I ate something  every 2-3 hours.  My fall brides saw me snacking on goldfish and bagels like a crazy person!   I had about 2 weeks were I really didn’t feel good, but luckily it happened when I didn’t have any weddings and I was able to just relax and chill a bit.   I have had some fun pregnancy brain moments – saran wrap in fridge, orange juice in the cup cabinet,  heartburn for dayssssss.   Seriously, the heartburn does not end.  I think I have about 3 or 4 bottles of tums running around. One in my purse, one upstairs on the nightstand, one in the bathroom and one that is the floater bottle.  I have also found out that I am not a fan of the berry mix of Tums, I like the mixed fruit!  For someone who has never had heartburn in their life, my love for Tums is shocking.    I literally lived off of bagels, orange juice and tums for the first trimester.  My doctor did some blood work to make sure my blood sugars were okay in the first trimester and I was a nervous wreck for several days because all I could think about was the fact that I had lived off of Orange juice, bagels and cream cheese for 3 months!  That is a great diet for blood sugar!  All the numbers were good though in the end.

Cravings –  I really haven’t had any cravings.  I almost feel like I am missing out on that pregnancy experience and it is a little sad!  I have probably had more Chinese food then normal.  I may have had a Molly Woo’s craving at 9:30 at night… could that be a craving? Sure!  Sweets really haven’t interested me.  I did have a week or two last month were my sweet tooth came back with a vengeance, but I am blaming the holidays for that!

That is about it for the pregnancy!  You might be asking how is this going to work with the business?  We aren’t taking any weddings in April because of the little one, we do have our weddings starting up in mid May which is perfect for us.  We will have lots of time to heal and bond with the little baby and I know I will be excited to get back to photographing weddings.  I do plan to do engagement sessions in April depending on when the little one comes.  I do not have a specific maternity leave time that I am going to take.  I will most likely take a week off from emails, calls, and meetings.  After that I will pick back up on emails, calls and most likely meetings.  Since this is our first child, we really do not know how it is all going to go with when he will arrive and how long the recovery will be.  So the first week or two we are going to play it by ear.  I am guessing though that I should be perfectly capable of sitting with my computer to answer emails!  I am sure I will be snapping photos of the little guy from day one!

Here are some fun pictures that were taken for the announcement, our cake that we got and the official announcement picture we used when we announced it on facebook of the gender!
